Ohireime Julian Osemobor, age 29, was arrested on Sunday, June 6, by Stamford Police for the violent assault of the 66-year-old man which took place around 10 p.m., on Saturday, May 29, said Stamford PD Captain Richard Conklin.
On the evening of the attack, Patrol Division officers responded to the area of East Main Street and Quintard Terrace on a report of a man down on the sidewalk.
Upon arrival, the victim, who was reportedly found unconscious by witnesses, was transported to the Stamford Hospital where he has remained in the Intensive Care Unit, intubated and on a ventilator, after being diagnosed with a brain bleed, Conklin said.
It was unknown at the time whether the victim fell, or suffered his injuries from foul play.
"In quick fashion, it was discovered through local surveillance video, that the victim was brutally shoved from behind by a single male suspect, causing the victim’s head to strike the concrete sidewalk," Conklin said.
It was later determined that the suspect may have falsely believed that the victim had accosted a female who was located further up the street at the time.
The investigation has lent evidence to the fact that this is untrue, and the victim had no apparent altercation with anyone, Conklin said.
Osemobor, of Stamford, was apprehended after officers responding to a disturbance call at a motel on the West Side of Stamford on Sunday, came across Osemobor, and took him into custody.
Osemobor was charged with assault of an elderly person, and remains in the custody of the Stamford Police Department on a $125,000 court set bond, awaiting arraignment on Monday, June 7.
